A focused, skills-based mini course designed to build confidence and accuracy in manual blood pressure measurement. This lesson walks students through the equipment, anatomy, positioning, and technique needed to obtain reliable readings in pregnancy and labor.

Students will learn how to correctly use a sphygmomanometer and stethoscope, identify the brachial artery, recognize Korotkoff sounds and their phases, and avoid common errors that can lead to false readings. The course also covers physiologic and measurement-related factors that affect blood pressure, as well as evidence-based guidance for responding to unexpected results.

This short lesson is ideal for student midwives who want a clear, practical refresher on a foundational clinical skill, or who are preparing for skills check-offs, exams, or clinical practice.
